New Classical Music Competition

The BBC is looking for young classical musicians with star quality to take part in a brand new TV competition. The competition will be filmed and shown on BBC2 later this year. The winner will receive a recording contract with a major classical music label.

We are looking for instrumentalists and vocalists aged 19 or under who have reached grade 8 standard and have the potential to launch a solo career.

This is a music competition with a difference; it aims to discover new talent as well as developing and nurturing participants' musicianship by combining a competition with a specialist residential music academy.

From May 2007 we will be holding regional auditions around the UK to select talented young musicians who will attend the Music Academy for three weeks during August. Director of the Academy, cellist Matthew Barley, will devise a programme for the students which will include specialist tuition, masterclasses, and performance practice from world class music professionals.

The competition will be judged by an elite panel who are not only internationally renowned classical music experts but also have a wealth of experience in recognising and nurturing new classical talent. The finalists will perform at a prestigious concert venue, where the competition winner will be decided.
