Rhino Finally Hits Number One, Digital Does the Deed

Rhino has finally scored a number-one album release, thanks to an incredibly strong digital result.  The soundtrack to the Academy Award-nominated Juno grabbed top billing after shifting 65,000 units, a meager tally for a number one.  Still, Juno is the first chart-topping album in the entire thirty-year history of Rhino, reason enough to pop the champagne.

Others may take a closer look at the Rhino digital sales strategy.  Earlier this week, Rhino Entertainment executives tipped Digital Music News to a digital sales total that crossed 60 percent of total units.  That easily beats percentages on most other albums, particularly from more mainline artists.  The Juno soundtrack edged releases from Alicia Keys, Natasha Bedingfield, and Mary J. Blige.  Rhino, a label best known for catalog reissues, is a division of Warner Music Group.
