School of Sound Recording
Tuition in Audio Engineering, Live Sound, Post Production, Elctronic Music Production, Remixing and DJ Skills. They offer training from basic to degree level.
"The School of Sound Recording (SSR) was established in 1984 by Managing Director John Breakell. SSR has always had deep roots in the city�s famous music scene and strong connections with the industry, not only across Manchester, but across the world. Originally situated in Tariff Street (Northern Quarter), the school moved location in 2003 to Downing Street, M1, due to expansion. SSR is located in the city centre, 4 minutes walk from Piccadilly train station.
The school was established primarily for recording studio work, training sound engineers and technicians for jobs in the music and entertainment industry. Over time, the range of available courses has grown and SSR now also trains people for jobs in the live sound industry, TV post-production, broadcast, media, equipment retail, theatre, in fact any job which requires the services of trained audio engineers and technicians. We also deliver professional training courses for music producers, remixers and DJs. We are one of 3 UK Digidesign ProSchools offering a wide range of ProTools courses in music production and post-production (sound to picture)."
Gateway School of Recording

The BA Hons in Audio Technology and Music Industry Studies, validated by City University, is an intensive 3 year course designed to give students the most thorough education in the theory, practical techniques and creative practices employed in the Audio Industry and Music Business worldwide.
We run a comprehensive program of 1 day, 2 day and 10 week courses covering all professional music production software and specialist areas of recording and music industry studies. We are the official Digidesign Certified Training Location and are additionally certified by Apple to teach Logic.
Access to Music
Access to Music Ltd. was founded in 1992 with a remit to increase the number of people involved in music at all stages of their lives.
The organisation's prime aim has been to promote and improve popular music training in the UK. This goal is at the heart of more recent initiatives such as the Music Manifesto, of which Access to Music is a signatory.
Access to Music has worked, and is working with, a wide range of organisations to achieve its aim. It is a member of the National Association of Music Educators (NAME) and the Music Industries Association (MIA). It has worked with partners including Rockschool, Lloyds TSB, Yamaha, Creative & Cultural Skills, Qualifcations & Curriculum Agency (QCA), Music Live, London Development Agency, Learning & Skills Council (LSC), Bacardi, Sibelius, Music Education Council, PRS/MCPS, Musicians' Channel, Arts Council England, Job Centre Plus, New Deal for Musicians, Westminster University and the Royal Northern College of Music. It also works closely in partnership with FE colleges and schools across the country.
To support its education activities, Access to Music has created Atom Events, Atom Management and Atom Music to promote music opportunities for students and ex-students. These are all exciting industry-orientated initiatives designed to help students progress into musical employment.
In 2006, Access to Music was credited with being one of the best training providers in the country by the Adult Learning Inspectorate. This was following a Grade 2 inspection during Spring 2006.
Access to Music offers a range of courses with recognised qualifications, including access to higher education courses. Courses are offered throughout the UK.
For Music Practitioners Access to Music, In partnership with Rockschool www.rockschool.co.uk, offers a practical, vocational suite of course-based qualifications run in centres around the country. Various pathways are offered including Vocal Artist, Performing Musician and Creative Music Producer.
Brighton Institute of Modern Music
The Brighton Institute of Modern Music runs various full-time and part-time programmes from entry level to BA Honours degree for guitar, bass, drums, vocals, songwriting, and live sound andtour management. We also run various annual summer school courses.
Performance courses: There are seven core courses at BIMM of which you can specialise in your chosen instrument or area. These include Certificate in Modern Music, Diploma in Modern Music, Diploma in Songwriting, Diploma in Sound Engineering and Tour Management, BIMM Professional Diploma (Level 5) in Modern Music, BIMM Professional Diploma (Level 5) in Songwriting, Foundation Degree in Professional Musicianship and BA Hons in Professional Musicianship. BIMM also run annual Summer Schools.
Plus, whatever course you take, you will study a Music Business module.
Point Blank Music College
Point Blank offer courses in Music Production, Radio, Performance and DJ Courses. Tutors are all music industry professionals.
All the music production and DJ Courses at Point Blank are fully accredited by OCNLR. Point Blank is also now offering two BTEC National Award courses in Music (Composing) and Music Technology (DJ Technology). Both courses are nationally recognised by the QCA (Qualifications & Curriculum Authority) as GCSE “A” level equivalent.
They also have their own publishing company, Point Blank Music, (sub-published by Universal Music -the largest music publisher in the world). Every Point Blank student has the opportunity to submit their work for consideration by Universal Music.
Academy of Music and Sound
The Academy of Music and Sound is an accredited EDEXCEL training organisation with centres located throughout the UK. Our range of full & part-time BTEC qualifications use some of the UK's top session musicians with a practical focus for musicians wishing to work in the music industry. The SAE offers an Audio Engineering Diploma. Practical classes and hands-on studio time are supported by theoretical tuition, giving students a thorough knowledge of a broad range of audio production-related issues. Successful completion of the Diploma level gives graduates the possibility to continue their studies towards a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Recording Arts Degree.
Graduates of the SAE Audio Engineering Diploma are able to operate a wide range of professional, industry standard equipment, large format consoles, hard disk recording and editing systems, sequencing software, digital control surfaces, several types of analogue and digital mixing desks, as well as studio standard effects processors and microphones. Graduates who have gained this qualification will have recorded and mixed several music productions, completed a comprehensive post production project, programmed MIDI arrangements and worked extensively with ProTools.
Diploma courses combine highly practical training with in-depth theory study and culminate in an SAE Diploma qualification. These courses are designed to enable graduates to start working in their chosen industry upon successful completion. The SAE Diploma is equivalent to having completed 50% of the Middlesex University Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree. Diploma studies range from 12 to 21 months.
