Music in Prisons

Since 1995, the Trust has run over 50 creative music based projects working directly with men, women, young offenders and juveniles in a variety of prison establishments in the UK. Through music and high quality arts activity, the Irene Taylor Trust aims to teach artistic and personal skills that participants will be able to draw on in every day life.

MZONE

MZONE is one of 24 Youth Music Action Zones in England and Wales providing music-making activities to young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity. Youthartsonline is being developed as a dedicated directory or ?portal? aimed at two main audiences: young people who want information about opportunities in the arts wherever they live in the UK; youth arts practitioners and organisations who want to provide young people with information about workshops, training, courses and events. It also provides a place online for networking, exchange of information and the promotion of young people's work.

Soundjunction

The SoundJunction website’s all about music. You can take music apart and find out how it works, create music yourself, find out how other people make music and how they perform it, you can find out about musical instruments, and look at the backgrounds to different musical styles. It also contains music career information from over 40 professional musicians who talk on film about how they got to where they are, and what they think of it.

National Association of Youth Orchestras


The National Association of Youth Orchestras provides access to many useful resources to support and further the work of musical ensembles. The Festival of British Youth Orchestras is NAYO’s largest and most exciting annual event. The Festival takes place in Edinburgh and Glasgow for three weeks in August as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and runs alongside the Edinburgh International Festival. It publishes a directory which provides contact details and information about youth and student orchestras throughout the UK.

Scottish Music Centre

The Scottish Music Centre is a one-stop shop for information for anyone interested in music and is home to an enormous archive of nearly 30,000 items, ranging from copies of 18th Century song-sheets and Scottish contemporary classical scores to the latest CD releases from traditional, rock, jazz and indie bands.

Visitors to the Centre can also use computers with a range of the latest music software, including Sibelius 4 and Garageband, and read a variety of specialist music publications, directories and magazines relevant to all musical styles and interests.

Add to this a seemingly endless electronic database resource and a team of experts whose enthusiasm and personal knowledge is second to none, and the result is a hub of information, offering unparalleled access to knowledge and advice about music created, performed or recorded in Scotland.

Arts Council England

Arts Council England is the national development agency for the arts in England, distributing public money from Government and the National Lottery. The website has a section for music and includes Arts Council policy and current initiatives.

The Scottish Arts Council is the lead body for the funding, development and advocacy of the arts in Scotland.

The Radio Academy

The Radio Academy is a registered charity dedicated to the encouragement, recognition and promotion of excellence in UK broadcasting and audio production.

Since 1983 we have represented the radio industry to outside bodies including the government and offered neutral ground where everyone from the national networks to individual podcasters is encouraged to discuss the broadcasting, production, marketing and promotion of radio and audio.

The Radio Academy operates under the direction of a committee of Trustees elected by our members. From April 1st 2007 staff employed by our patrons will be eligible for free membership, as will members of the Student Radio and Hospital Broadcasting Associations. Applications for individual membership at the new annual rate of £25 will be welcomed from freelancers, podcasters, audio bloggers, listeners, downloaders and anyone else with an interest in the creation and enjoyment of quality radio and audio services.

NEMIS

NEMIS was established in 2001 as a music network for Scottish artists, labels, music businesses, media, recording studios, venues, radio, creatives and professional services within the industry in order to bring together those with a strong interest in the promotion and development of new music in Scotland.

Nemis will offer advice to anyone involved in any area of the music business,assist the marketing and promotion of the industry through the showcasing of bands regionally,nationally and internationally, offer discounted rates at trade fairs and music industry seminars, produce compilation CDs to promote independent Scottish music of all genres and provide music industry workshops and seminars throughout Scotland and provide a facility where people can have the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals within the industry.

The website serves as the nerve centre for NEMIS members where news gigs,industry features,links,venues,etc will be ongoing.. We would like to make it clear you do not have to be Scottish, or living in Scotland to work with NEMIS.

Participation is available for those who are active in the contemporary music scene .
