You probably know that when a singer or band get to number one it doesn’t happen over night. Most of the time, acts having been getting ready for years before we discover them. Journalist Jimmy Blake has been finding out how major record companies prepare young artists for a career in one of the toughest industries in this series of Soundcloud recordings.
Jimmy interviews three up and coming artists and asks about their dealings with labels and management: Ellie Lawson has been recording music for 10 years, and has recently toured America and had a string of hits in the Beatport top 10 charts; Zara Kershaw is a popular vocalist soon to release her second EP, and has just been linked with a development deal with Island Records; and Adrian Roye is part of North London afro-folk band Adrian Roye and the Exiles.
