New Music: Little Boots – Nocturnes [Stream]Posted on May 9th, 2013 by Lee Jarvis in New Music
UK musician, singer, songwriter, and DJ Little Boots has presented her latest release Nocturnes this week. The album is now available everywhere, and you can stream the music below via the Spotify widget.
Often known for exploring music technology ideas and playing the Japanese electronic instrument Tenori-on, Little Boots also plays piano, keyboards and synthesizers to form much of her music. The futuristic elements are strong throughout Nocturnes, whilst at the same time nodding to electro-disco acts of the past, and coming out with a modern pop record.
Evolution of an Electro-pop Princess
For her 2nd album, Little Boots wanted to push a different sound – one that her previous major label didnt agree with, and resulted in her starting her own label and self-releasing Nocturnes. As she told The Vinyl Factory in a recent interview, “It took me a little while to find the sound and the direction for the album and find the right people to work with, because I wasn’t just going to do the first thing as last time.”
Those ‘right people’ she worked with were producer Tim Goldsworthy of DFA Records fame, Andy Butler from Hercules and the Love Affair, and Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford. Quite the superstar line-up, and each collaboration shows through in their various spins on Boots’ vocals, all having their finger on the pulse of an exciting electro-pop crossover sound.
