This vacancy was posted on 16/11/09 The Choir is looking for a director/pianist to take lunchtime rehearsals once at week (Tuesdays) at St George-in-the-East church on The Highway, 10 minutes east of Tower Hill.
The choir is made up of employees of News International (publishers of The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and The News of the World) and the church is five minutes' walk from our offices.
The singers are keen but very mixed ability and are mainly there to have a good lusty sing once a week. But they also put on three concerts a year, plus a carol concert with St Bride's choir, have entered the 2010 Office Choir of the Year competition (without huge expectation of success) and last year sang in the City Sings concert at the Barbican with six other City choirs.
The choir is looking for a friendly, enthusiastic conductor/pianist who can adapt to a group (about 15 on an average day) that has quite a number of singers that can't read music but also some that have sung with leading amateur London choirs.
It can offer a £25 fee for an hour's rehearsal. Rehearsals tend to be suspended during August and during Xmas and Easter but this is flexible. |
