This vacancy was posted on 02/04/09 Our client is seeking a highly experienced Instrument Repair Technician for Brass & Woodwind Instruments for a permanent role based in Doha, Qatar.
This position repair and tune instruments for Brass and Woodwinds:
Brass:
Mechanical overhaul: The instrument is dissembled and cleaned. All reachable dents are removed. All felt corks, springs and rotor strings are replaced. Any broken or worn parts are repaired or replaced
Playing Condition: The instrument is disassembled and cleaned. All felts, corks and springs are inspected and replaced as necessary. The valves, slides and water keys are cleaned, adjusted and carefully inspected for proper positioning and alignment
Woodwinds:
Mechanical Overhaul: All pads, corks, springs and felts are replaced. Any broken keys, loose posts or key guards are repaired.
All worn mechanisms causing lost motion or sloppiness in the keys are repaired or replaced.
Playing Condition: Adjustment of the instruments and minor repairs.
Your responsibilities will include the following areas:
For Brass instruments:
1) Dent Removal
2) Repair Stuck valves
3) Replace valve springs
4) Soldering of braces and ferrules
5) Rotor Valve repair and stringing
6) Silver polishing
7) Repair/Adjust Trombone slide alignment
8) Soft solder braces or tubing
9) Restring French Horn rotors
10) Replacing valve corks and felts
11)Rethread top or bottom valve casing
For Woodwinds instruments:
12) Repair flute/Piccolo head joint dent
13) Repair or replace a tone hole
14)Refit flute head/foot joint
15) Replace piccolo/flute head joint cork
16) Disassemble and polish a flute
17) Solder post/key or receiver

Certification from technical schools and colleges offering courses in brass, woodwind instrument repair and at least 5 years experience in repairing
