This unpaid internship will allow the successful candidate to gain experience by assisting the Media Relations Managers (Classical and Contemporary Music) and Media Relations Officers (Classical and Contemporary Music) on the implementation of media campaigns for the Great Performers season and the Contemporary Music season.
Examples of the daily activities that interns will be able to undertake are:
• Assisting with researching background information for media releases in relation to the upcoming concerts.
• Providing administrative support for the Media Relations Managers and Media Relations Officers for classical and contemporary music, including filing, photocopying, putting press packs together and arranging transport.
• Assisting with journalist research.
• Assisting with responding to picture requests.
• Being present and assist occasionally at the press desk.
• Answering journalists’ enquiries by telephone and by email, and queries from other sources.
This internship will ideally suit someone who:
• Has a passion for the arts, particularly music
• Has a good telephone manner and IT skills
• Is enthusiastic, willing to get involved and embrace the entire experience of working in the department
• A great team worker
In addition, candidates may be able to build on the following skill/experience:
• Experience of working in the arts
• Experience of working in media relations
• Use of databases
• Foreign languages
Interns are expected to work a minimum of 3 days a week for a period of three months. Basic travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed. Candidates should be available to start the internship on the 27 April 2009.
