This vacancy was posted on 04/11/09 Applications are invited for the position of Musical Director to the choir. After eight successful years at the helm, the current MD, David Bray, is standing down owing to a change in his personal circumstances.
The choir was formed in West London some 25 years ago and has established a good reputation in the local area, performing a wide range of music from 16th to 21st centuries. The four concerts staged each year are accompanied by piano, organ, or occasionally, a small orchestra.
Rehearsals take place at the Arts Educational Schools, Bath Road, Chiswick W4 on Monday evenings during school terms, and run from 7.30 to 9.30 pm. The choir’s main concert venue is the church of St Michael and All Angels, Bath Road, Chiswick, adjacent to Turnham Green Tube Station.
Currently, membership numbers 50-60 singers of varied ability and choral experience. The choir is non-auditioned although newcomers are required to do a simple voice test for the MD. The choir undertakes regular surveys amongst members and its friendliness and inclusiveness are always seen as important to the success of the group.
For background information, there is a summary of the choir’s history and past repertoire on the website together with information about the musicians who have helped to shape the choir over the years.
A new MD is sought to lead the choir successfully into its next 25 years! Remuneration is by agreement but is broadly in line with norms researched by Making Music and reviewed on an annual basis.
If you are interested in the position, please send your CV to Trish Byrne, the Honorary Secretary by email by 14 December. It should be accompanied by a covering letter which answers the following two questions:
1. Why do you think you are the right candidate for us?
2. If appointed, how would you tackle your first three months in the post?
It would be helpful to limit your response to one side of A4 in a readable font size.
