The position of Production and Technical Manager is a short term contract position, based in London and reporting to the Associate Producer of the Festival. The period is approximately from October 2008 – 30 April 2009, with the option for further extension/renewal, requiring the position to be on site in Abu Dhabi full time from mid-March to late April 2009.
Initial hours in the briefing, planning and liaison phase (1 October 2008 to mid March 2009) is estimated as being half-time initially, increasing to full-time in the lead-up to and during the main event period. Once in Abu Dhabi hours will be full time including night work with extended hours as the event schedule requires.
Duties
The overall purpose of this role is to coordinate and manage all production and technical aspects across multiple venues of an Art and Film Festival and its Launch event. This involves:
1. Heading the Technical and Production Department and overseeing all technical and production requirements of the festival, its public and private events including lectures, workshops and live performance events across multiple venues.
2. Overseeing all freight movements into and out of the UAE relating to the festival including films, technical equipment and musical instruments.
3. Assisting with finding and adapting suitable venues for a variety of Festival purposes.
4. Determining crew numbers and schedules for each venue and liaise with production assistants to execute the set ups and break downs.
5. With assistance from the Executive Producer developing and managing the Production and Technical budget and provide relevant documentation for all supplies bought or hired.
6. Liaising with heads of departments.
7. Planning and overseeing the festival break down and load out.
8. Overseeing and implementing the festival recycling plan.
9. Briefing security in regards to venue, site and equipment security requirements
10. Maintaining daily operational reports and provide a detailed final report on all production and technical aspects at the conclusion of the Festival.
Skills and Experience
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum of 5 years as a professional working technician in a venue or production company
Festival experience preferred
Knowledge of film and screen set ups desirable
Have a good working knowledge of health and safety procedures
Have worked as a team member preferably in a management or part management capacity
Work experience and contacts in the UAE an advantage.
Skills
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
High level of attention to detail and a desire for technical perfection
Computer literacy
Ability to read technical plans and schedules
Other Qualities
Ability to retain a calm disposition working under stress and in tight time frames
Ability to improvise where required
Arabic speaking if possible, but not essential
Remuneration
Commensurate with experience and abilities. To be negotiated with each individual applicant.
