I am a well qualified musician with a classical training in music; seeking to develop my career further. However I am getting to a point where people read my details and think by what they read that I am of a certain age which signifies I must be soon to be over the hill. However, when I am seen in person people cannot believe my vitality, energy and youthful outlook.

Nevertheless I would like to work in a television company in the area of music, either composing, arranging or broadcasting. How does one get through the barriers - when so much of what I read states these days that people of ethnic origin such as myself are welcome to apply - but the evidence seems to favour those who are blond and blue eyed and full of youthful years?

I'm sure that if I was in the USA, making such a change would not be a big problem at any time in one's career - providing one wanted to make a reall go of it? I look forward to anyone's comments on this.

Hi Heron.
I hate to say this, but I think you only have two options.

1.) Be "mysterious" - in the box where it says "age" - put a question mark - you get the idea.
This doesn't always work, so I would seriously suggest the next option.

2.) Lie!! And if you make the audition - prove to them that age and talent can go hand-in-hand.

Good Luck. :)

As a suggestion, it may be that although you're classically trained, the training that the 'younger' person has received could be more appropriate to the job in hand (if this is not the case correct me!).

May I hear the music you have been involved in?

Speak soon,
