When I was signed up for this site, it expressly said that it was totally free. Upon searching the jobs though, it appears you have to pay to respond to the adverts! I wish sites like this would be more up front about their intentions and their costs.

I think this website is brilliant!

I have had two jobs through this website, so the fact that I had to pay a subscription doesnt mean anything because I made the money back in the first day of employment.

Nothings for free in life, although if the government could tax air im sure they would

Hello, that made me think of... :

Let me tell you
How it will be.
There's one for you,
Nineteen for me,

'Cause I'm the taxman.
Yeah, I'm the taxman.

Should five percent
Appear too small,
Be thankful I don't
Take it all.

If you drive a car,
I'll tax the street.
If you drive to city,
I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold,
I'll tax the heat.
If you take a walk,
I'll tax your feet..

Don't ask me what I want it for,
(Uh-uh, Mr. Wilson.)
If you don't want to pay some more.
(Uh-uh, Mr. Heath.)

And my advice to
Those who die.
(Taxman!)
Declare the pennies
On your eyes.

And you're working for no one but me.

(The Beatles of course)

Very funny!

It's true about paying for this site though,it does work being a full paying member.

Theres plenty of opportunities that come through this website if people want them.

I don't know...that seems pretty clear to me - if you read it properly.

Sign up to a free membership...if a job comes along that interests you, pay a whole 7 pounds for the month, and apply - then anything else that month is essentially paid for.

Not a huge price to pay - I know "traditional" job agencies are free for the job seeker, but then the music industry isn't exactly a traditional industry, where many of the usual rules don't seem to apply.

Fair point.

I suppose you could say that if you had an agent he/she would charge a commission on on any job they got you e.g. 15-20% + VAT (I know, stupid aint it?). So for every £100 quid you would be paying about £24 quid in charges. If you pay £7 quid for a months membership you you would only have paid a 7% charge for your first £100 quid.

I can see your point but it works out cheaper than having an agent and in my experience it's really easy to get ripped off with agents, (as i have recently found out to the sum of £500 quid).

Although you are right about job agencies not charging they pass the cost onto the employer. Always beware of agents or agencies charging upfront fees, i found out this is illegal.

This site isn't an agency or an agent.

What kind of work are you looking for? Im interested.

The fact is though it is a hard struggle trying to work in this industry. To be charged to look at job adverts is a bit of a kick in the face. It is in the interests of the employer to pay to place an advert, so to pay to view that same advert is a little grating. As a result I rarely use this site, and I doubt too many working professionals do either - the clientele does seem to be students and those early in their career who need a break, and ironically are the ones with the least amount of resources.

If I do see an advert here, the chances are the employer will have posted it on another jobs website, and I have always managed to find it elsewhere - something to think about.

Hi Geefunk,

Thanks for your comments but I'd like to just address a few of your points.

1)UK Music Jobs is used exclusively by a number of large and independent companies and the adverts do not always appear on other websites.

2)Some companies on occasion will choose to advertise their position(s) in a variety of different outlets. There is nothing we can do about that. Part of the membership package with Music Jobs is that you do not have to do any research for yourself as we inform you of all the best opportunities available.

3) As a fully subscribing member your details are also visible to all companies and music professionals using the site. This is a fantastic platform to network and collaborate with your peers and promote your own services.

4)Please see our testimonials page to see examples of individuals who have found success through Music Jobs.

5)We work very hard to bring you the best possible service and keep you up to date on all the top jobs in the industry. Unfortunately given the nature of the industry and level of competition for most roles it is impossible for us to guarantee anyone work no matter how experienced they are. What we can do it provide you a slick, professional profile to advertise your self and the tools to assist you in finding the work you want.

All the very best,

geefunk - well that's kind of who it's targeted at! Those looking for their first break...personally I'm a working pro too, I keep half an eye on it but I'm not exactly relying on the site for work. If something comes up that really interests me, then I'll go for it - and I've had more than one offer of work - but it's an extra to my regular work. Plus you've got it slightly wrong - you're NOT charged to look at ads, only to see the company details and to actually apply for the thing. You can see all the other details before deciding whether to spend the money in applying.

Of course, most professsionals make more work by networking - that's the nature of it.

And like I said - when there's kids battering down the doors willing to work for free, you can't really blame a record company or studio for not wanting to pay a recruitment agency's commision.
