Opinion seems to be divided as to whether ITV's excuses for Cheryl Cole pre-recording her first performance of debut solo singe 'Fight For this Love' are valid.

They claim Cheryl can't be expected to judge, sing live AND get changed all in one show. So they will pre-record her performance and she will lip-synch. Rumours abound that Polydor don't want a repeat of Girls Aloud performance on the show last year where Cheryl was clearly out of tune....and that was only two or three solo lines.

If she doesn't sing live and has the audacity to tell one of the acts they sang out of tune i encourage them to leap the desk and pinch her. Hard.

Whatever happens we at Music Jobs towers think the Mrs Cole's single is heinous and whether she sings live or not...you can't polish a turd.

I'm pretty sure Alexandra Burke was miming last week and she can actually sing. She def missed a few cues..... Anyone else notice?

Cheryl's fit but annoying & can't sing. Maybe before she performs she should suck on a Melodyne.

As I understood it, the pre-record is being done as a live performance (ie: no re-takes or drop-ins). What I'm not quite sure about is whether CC is going to mime to the pre-record or whether the footage is going to be pre-recorded as well. Given, ITV say that one of the problems is that CC won't have time to judge, change and sing on a live show, I would think the latter - although it begs the questions, why change clothes anyway?

Yes, Alexandra Burke was lip-synching to a pre-recorded track.

I don't think you should be a pop star if you can't sing live, sometimes you have to mime but you shouldn't be selling records if you can't even hold a tune.

I understood (wrongly) that she was lip-synching her talking and judging, that would definitely be fun to watch!!....the singing, well that's what Pop's become these days...

It's damage limitation on ITV's part really isn't it?

Well my take on it all is this:

Most albums these days are recorded to click, often live instrumental work is re-sampled Drums particularly.

I recorded an album with one of the bands ( www.elephantshelf.com ) that I play in and we did it live plus a couple of over dubs, no click tracks or sampling. Its being played on around 30 specialist EU FM stations and has had some UK play on local FM too.

People either love it or hate it as it sounds like it was recorded in the early 70's sonically. We had the option to record it anyway that we like as we are fortunate enough to have a live room that will take up to 10 players, so our album sounds like the band at a gig but with a cleaner sound.

We have been told by various record producers(alleged) that we should spend 30 grand re-recording with them using click tracks sampling & so forth as we will never get mainstream radio play with it sounding the it is ( we could rip the tracks apart and do that out selves if we wanted to anyway LOL). But the punters like it and we are lining up festivals next year in the EU so we think we have got it right.

Punters have no idea what live music sounds like as so many bands use midi & sampling in what is supposed to be a live performance and this ultimately leads to sterility in music. IMHO

Miles Davis did not have a click track or autotune. Would Bob Dylan have got on the X factor, I suspect not...

Even those performers that are perfectly capable of a good live performance are discouraged from doing so in the interests of perfection....

For my solo stuff I do it all with a click track of course LOL

Hey Diana,
Big up and compliments on your achievements, you stuck to your guns and stayed true to your sound!
As a producer, I would never encourage anyone to fork out so much money these days to re-record a band that's already tight, well rehearsed and that's appreciated for their live shows, just to fit with radio airplay. It's ridiculous! I understand the idea but I'm a promoter of artistry, originality and creativity and any productions I do complement the sound of an artist. I don't use autotune and rarely use Melodyne (I haven't got the time!) as I want people to hear a true artist and I work with seasoned and established artists. Radios, producers and record companies will have to change their attitude towards artists/recording etc in order to keep up!
