Another first in my life:

"Unfortunately this is only available to applicants who have no formal qualifications and up to GCSE levels or equivalents. Anyone with A levels or beyond will not be acceptable. Checks will be made."

- Where on earth would somebody would specifically want an uneducated person for their organization?. This is a first in my life.

Resident Studios should open their eyes and ears and see that the whole audio industry is changing and audio departments in universities are being developed througout the world to produce more educated professionals. I agree that on the job training in audio industry is the ultimate and the most essential type of training: Just like being a doctor, you HAVE TO DO INTERNSHIP IN A HOSPITAL, and YES nobody can teach you how to deal with real life problems at the college. BUT that is IN NO WAY enough reason to abandon colleges, universities and educational organization.

I hope they wake up soon, or you might see their equipment at auction soon..Just like Mark Angelo, Air, etc etc...

I totally agree, thought id found something good with this internship, then read the rest and was rather pissed off, sounded like a great opertunity but guess its not for people that worked their socks off getting a levels in subjects to try and get into the industry!

People - I understand this seems unfair but it is all to do with funding. The government in its wisdom has decided that those with A levels, diplomas and degrees will not have the same level of funding as those that do not have those qualifications. This money is vital as it enables us to run this course.

We still have regular jobs available at Resident as you will have seen in the past, and they will be advertised as and when they are available.

Ah I see then. Apologies for the misinterpretation. Cheers for the explanation. Good luck with your employee-hunt.

Pesonally I think this is a great idea, I have been job-hunting for six months and to be able to grab at a chance like this is brilliant, as my highest qualification is GCSE - and although I was an A student none of these were in music. In my opinion I could do any job just like the next guy who DOES have qualifications, because I'm willing to work hard and learn but the guy with a degree will always get the job dispite my best efforts.

In my opinion there should be more chances like this for people who couldn't afford to go to university - just because you have a degree doesn't make you a better or more intelligent person, it just makes you more fortunate.

I agree, with you about the degree, personally I think university is a waste of time, as most people I know who have gone are working in supermarkets, or cant get a job (obv uni ok if u want to be a lawyer, docter, teacher etc). However, I worked hard to get A levels because I thought it would help me get into the recording industry, and its annoying that after all that work, im not allowed to apply for this oppertunity. I understand your position and resident studios, its just annoying from my point of you as i hope you can understand. Its not just this industry, i see it in other, people that just mucked around at school and left at 16 with poor GSCE grades are welcomed into things like plumbing and car maintainence etc and are now doing ok for themselves, but because i chose to stay on and gain qualifications, Im finding it very hard.

Im not having a go at anyone, its just fustrating.

I think its great what they are doing, enenthough I was just as pissed off when I got the reply ...you are over qualified!...I like the idea of getting people in that dont know much about this line of work but still what about us that have got some knowledge and some experience..if they want to do so much good with this give us guys that want to really make a living out of this a chance to grow and learn instead of these guys who just decided hey I wanna work in a studio....
