Hello, i am just starting out as a sound recordist but currently dont have my own equipment, i was wondering if anyone had any advice in terms of what equipment i should purchase?

hi there,
sennheiser 416 shotgun is almost a standard for location recording but it is expensive the K6 is less expensive and a good solution, it also give you interchangeable capsules.
then to start you can record the audio in the camera (if it doesn't have the XLR connection with the 48v don worry, the K6 can be powered by battery).
if the camera's audio quality is not good enough for your production you can buy a portable 2/3/4 tracks hard disk recorder,
tascam was another standard during the DAT era (you can still find a DA-P1 DAT recorder and it will work perfectly, 16/24 bit 48KHz).
also a stereo pare or a stereo mic (a good quality one) would be useful to record ambient.
i would not suggest lavaliere mics.
