About Me

I can play solo guitar comfortably across jazz or classical repertoire, or equally accompany singers and instrumentalists. I also have a lot of band experience playing electric guitar in jazz, funk or pop bands. I also play jazz and latin flute both reading charts and improvising.

I enjoy the freedom and creativity offered by a small ensemble and enjoy providing music for corporate and private events as well as regular performances in entertainment venues.

I have a fair few compositions either arranged for a band or for solo guitar and have produced arrangements of classical pieces for a jazz group or for classical guitar.

Employment History

Teaching Work

2002 – Peripatetic Teaching at Broomfield secondary school in Enfield where I set up a guitar club and lead an end of year concert.
2002 - Workshop on musical instruments in Hasmonian School in Hendon.
2003 – English Language teaching in Taiwan, running courses for Taipei Water Dept. and teaching in schools. Also further teaching in language schools in UK.
2004 to 2011 - Teaching privately in North London. I currently have over 20 students on guitar and flute of varying ages and musical styles, many of whom go through ABRSM, Trinity/Guildhall and Rock School Exams. Every summer I run a concert where all of my students may perform.

I have taken students from Initial Grade up to Grade 8. I have also produced many of my own tailored materials which enable me to teach effectively and flexibly while making use of graded programs and other commercially produced materials.

Community and Voluntary Music Work

1998 to 2002 - Concerts for ‘War Child’ charity, including Jobim and Bacharach tribute events at Taplow Court, Maidenhead
2001 to 2002 Performances in retirement homes in West London for Hiroko Duggan initiative
2005 – Performances for ‘Fathers for Justice’ charity.
2005 to 2011 - Various performances for Haringey, Islington and Enfield ‘Peace Week’, ‘Interfaith’ and other socially focused community events
2009 to 2011 Creating and running the ‘Acoustic Stage’ at East Barnet Summer Festival where local Acoustic acts can have a platform for showcasing and promoting themselves.

Professional Music Work

1994 to 2006 - Jazz performances around London with Richmond Trew’s Jorneymen, including house band for jazz jam session at Buzz Brasserie in Catford continuing for 3 years.
1996 - Street performance in Amsterdam leading to recordings for Radio and TV
1998 to 2002 – Studio and live work with Andrea Terrano in guitar duo ‘Dvie Guitari’
2001 - Guitarist/arranger for Taeko Kunishima’s world music/jazz fusion project for Japan 2001 cultural festival, including performances at Hackney Ocean and Pizza Express.
2002 - Performances in Northern Ireland and UK with ‘Boney M’ revival band featuring original members 90’s chart start Pauline Henrey
2004 - Performance at The Royal Festival Hall with Hi Ching’s ‘Shanghai Dream Hearts’.
2005 - Playing flute in ‘Yang Dag Spro Bar Band’ world music collaboration with Oud and South African Percussion performing at the Bull Theatre in Barnet and Haringey Peace Week Festival
2007 – Performance as OJ Staines Trio with Christian Brewer on Sax at East Barnet Festival
2008 to 2009 - Flautist for singer/songwriter Cris Tanzi, performing extensively around London
2008 to 2011 – Extensive work for private and corporate functions as well as public performance as guitarist in ‘Staines Tanzi Duo’
2009 to 2011 – Flautist for private and corporate functions in ‘The Velvet Blazers’ duo.

2002 – Artist Liason for War Child Charity concert at Taplow Court, organised by SGI UK featuring Herbie Hancock, Ronnie Jordan and other name artists.
2005 – Artist Liason Officer for ‘Diaspora Capital’ world music season, organised by Cultural Co-operation.
