Matthew Akal is a professional drummer, live performer and recording artist. He grew up in Durban, South Africa where he began playing the drums at the age of 14. Matthew soon became involved in bands and started performing gigs in clubs whilst still in high school. Matthew attended the University of Natal Music School where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree in which he specialized in jazz drumming, composition and electro-acoustic music. He has recorded and toured on a national basis in his home country of South Africa. He moved to London, UK to further pursue his career as a recording and performing artist and is currently establishing himself as a premier session drummer.
