About Me

Teaching Experience

Between 2000 & 2006 I was employed by the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education as a learning tutor. My main duties included:

• Teaching level 2,3 & 4 music courses to students aged 16 – 25.

I specialised in computer music production and composition (e.g. sequencing, sampling and synthesis, sound for film & TV,) and basic studio recording techniques. All sessions were delivered in computer suites or multi-track recording studios.

(Equipment used: Logic Pro and associated plug-ins / software instruments, Pro Tools and associated hardware including: Digidesign M-Box, Digi 001/002 and Control 24, Cubase SX and associated Mackie control surface and multi-track recording studios with associated outboard, mics and peripherals.)

• Designing and delivering short music technology evening classes.

• Co-ordinating BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology

Duties involved: Compiling student grades & completing awarding body forms for certification, internal verification and making provision for external verifiers and maintaining a course file of centralised administrational materials for staff and auditors.

Between 2006 & 2008 I worked part-time for Apple. My duties included:

• Giving ‘one-to-one’ training sessions on creative software - including Logic Pro 7 & 8, Garageband, Final Cut Pro, Motion and iLife

• Teaching customers how to troubleshoot OS X systems, software and hardware problems

Knowledge through industrial experience

For the past 3 years I have been working as a ‘freelance creative’. The range of projects and tasks are diverse but are mainly focused on:

• Music Production (e.g. Co-producing ‘Kids of the Future’ single with the chart band ‘Jonas Brothers’ for Disney’s ‘Meet the Robinsons’ sound track and the 1.8m selling self-titled album ‘Jonas Brothers.’)

• Musical compositions and audio edits for promotional material (including Disney & Pixar’s films WALL E, Bolt, G-Force & Bedtime Stories)

• Composing theme tunes for international TV shows (e.g. Disney Channel’s ‘Famous Five: On the Case’)

• Creating sound design, effects, Foley for interactive medias (e.g. Digital Outlook’s online flash game ‘Viva Voodoo’, adidas international in-store promotional campaign)

• Editing audio (e.g. Editing & mastering of audio for McDonald's Happy Meal music premiums.)

During the 1990’s, after working for two years as an assistant sound engineer, I started to record my own material. Over the next seven years I signed several recording and publishing deals, had numerous releases and many successes including:

• Gaining an entry in the ‘Guinness Book of Hit Albums’ for my contribution to the chart topping compilation album ‘Ambient Dub Volume 2’

• Selling 60K records in the US, which are still in print today and receive regular US airplay

• Co-producing music with Jamiroquai producer Al Stone that still receives regular international airplay

• Remixing artist such as Mantronik, EPMD & Beastie Boys

Knowledge through qualifications

In 2008 I achieved a first class BA (Hons) in Music Technology. Studying this degree encouraged me to explore new musical avenues and concepts, and consolidate my existing music technology knowledge. My main achievements within this degree were:

• Final Project – Experimental Sound – Using modern and contemporary production techniques to create a ‘musique concrète’ soundscape and video montage.

• Broadcast Technology - Researched and wrote report on the present and future developments of iTunes and the application of the H.264 video codec.

• Sound for Film - Matrix Redubbed - Recorded the score, sound effects, Foley and ADR for a short film.

• Studio Production Techniques ¬– Created several mixes in 5.1 surround sound.

I have studied many short industry courses including:

• An introduction to Max/MSP – exploring new approaches to music making.

• Apple Certified Pro – user certificate for Logic Pro

• Certified Trainer in Apple Pro Products – official recognition as a Logic Pro trainer

I also hold a City & Guilds Further & Adult Education Teacher Certificate (730-7) that has given me many valuable techniques for teaching and training.
